We are Part of Our City!

LEEDS is an amazing city in which to live. With one of the UK’s fast growing economies, it is a leading financial, legal and media centre. We have bars that sell more beer than anywhere else in Europe and over 50,000 students – not unrelated statistics! Amongst them, thousands of international students live side by side with Yorkshire folk of many nations, cultures and creeds. We truly have the world on our doorstep. And, across Leeds, as in other cities, conspicuous affluence co-exists with all sorts of poverty. We have some of the poorest council wards in the country.
As one particular community of believers, we believe there is only one church in the city made up of those who know God and follow Jesus, regardless of any congregation to which they may belong. We are encouraged by the growing desire for unity among God’s people in Leeds to impact the city with the life-changing love of Christ and His kingdom rule. We are praying with, communicating with, loving and working together with our brothers and sisters across the city, so that we will come to prophetically model that full unity of His people that Jesus prayed for.
To this end, people in our own community are active alongside other believers in Leeds working in: Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network; Leeds Faith in Schools (schools-based evangelism); Today’s Mathematics and Home Cut Directive (club music); Network Leeds (our city’s Christian communications programme); Esteem (sex-education) and Leeds Youth Cell Network.
As a local community of believers, whilst we provide leadership and facilities for Leeds Pregnancy Crisis Centre, counsellors come from other congregations too. Members are also involved in citywide learning forums such as WYSOCS. We also join with other Christians to pray for our city through the Together for Leeds. Students from our community are also actively involved in Alpha courses on the university campuses.
